Digital Bridge Inspections or Surveys
Traditional bridge inspections or surveys can sometimes provide little detail on the structure because of the limited and costly access restrictions. Depending on the complexity of the bridge and its characteristics they can be difficult to access or severely restrictive in terms of the inspection methods used.
Previously, if you wanted to carry out an extensive and detailed bridge inspection or survey, you would have to utilise traditional methods like rope, cherry pickers, aerial lifts, or specialised equipment. Traditional inspection procedures offer a serious risk to the inspectors; a simple breakdown of the equipment might result in deadly mistakes.
Drone technology and terrestrial laser scanning can reduce many of these dangers and conduct the inspection or survey much quicker than traditional methods while also capturing data rich information like HD images/video and 3D point clouds of the structure. This survey grade accurate data can also be used to create CAD drawings or REVIT models.
