Remote Control Boats - Inspect & Survey Tunnels, Culverts, Viaducts & Sewers

Remote control boats or ROV (Remote Operational Vehicle) have a very important role to play in the inspection or surveying structures and infrastructure. They can be deployed quickly, safely and cost effectively compared to more traditional methods.

The regular inspection and surveying of our infrastructure is key to its management and maintenance. The importance of inspections are increasing every day without the need to place people in dangerous environments to carry out this type of work. The inspection or surveying of structures (dams, bridges, reservoirs, breakwaters, piers, etc.) has always been arduous and difficult, and often dangerous, but today remote control boats offer solutions that eliminate the risks faced by confined space teams, and that also greatly reduce the high costs involved in such inspections/surveys.

We use remote-operated vehicles (ROV) to inspect or survey tunnels, culverts, viaducts, sewers etc where there’s water involved and its unsafe or impracticable to use drone technology.

The pilot controls the vessel from a safe area while the inspector controls the 4k camera to focus on areas of interest.

The ROV can be used along with any type of inspection or survey sensor e.g. 4K camera, laser scanner, gas sensor etc to gather digital data and then processed to produce 3D point clouds, CAD drawings, REVIT model, 4K video etc. This data can be used to document deficiencies where inspectors eyes and hands can’t reach or where conditions are too dangerous. The inspectors search for decay, corrosion, or other damage within the concrete or metal culverts.
